2. Development history

- Before 1983, the Department of Microbiology previously had been divided in to two parts: One is Microbiology belonging to Hematology Department and the other is Parasite belong to Pathology Department

- Since 1983, these two parts were combined to make the current Department of Microbiology.

- Since then, Microbiology Department has been managed by many heads of laboratory through different periods

- 1983 – 7/1986 Dr. Mai Nguyen Thi

- 8/1986 - 11/1992 Dr. Phuong Tran Thi Lan

- 12/1992 - 7/1996 PhD. Hoa Le Thi Thieu

 - 8/1996 - 6/2003 PhD. Mai Nguyen Thi

- 6/2013- Current Dr. Van Nguyen Thi

4.Functions and duties:

4.1 Controlling infection for in-patient

4.2 Performing Microbiology tests included: bacteria, virus and parasite tests

4.3 Assess the drug resistance of bacterial and viral pathogens in hospital.

4.4 Controlling the sterilization of the entire hospital; monitor and recommend intervention methods to ensure the hospital hygiene in order to reduce the infection rate.

4.5 Take part in the consultation and advice how to use appropriate antibiotic.

4.6 Participate in teaching and conduct the scientific researches.

 

5. Achievement:

Professional activities

  • Completed the professional works of department in 2015. There are 128.009 good quality tests. The numbers of test in 2015 were 8.106, more than 2014.
  • Ensured emergency manning duties and responded the emergency requirement timely
  • Completed 2 times a year of hygiene testing of the entire hospital and required departments.
  • Monitored hospital infection surveillance and recommended intervention methods to reduce infection.
  • Took part in the consultation and advice how to use appropriate antibiotic
  • Deployed immunity and molecular laboratories to perform new tests in 2015 and 2016.
  • Participated directed implementations from Hospital.
  • Guided laboratory practice for Medical students of Hanoi Medical College.

Scientific researches – Technical innovation:

     - Carried out the multicenter research “Research resistance trend surveillance” - IMHA (USA) management from 2007 to 2016

    - Participated antimicrobial stewardship to reduce the burden or antibiotic resistance in Vietnam Hospitals (Vinare Project), The External quality control program (Nequas) combined with laboratory center in UK.

     - Implemented the municipal scientific research “Complement anaerobic culture process from pus, fluid, blood specimens that collected from Hanoi Hospital”

      - There are many reports in 2015-2016. “Antibiotic resistance genes of isolation from Viet Duc Hospital”, “ Study Smart and resistance trend in urinary tract infections”….
