Doctors “bet” escrow for poor patients

Nguyen Quang Thanh, from Phuc Loc village, Hoang Duc commune, Hoang Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province, a poor patient with nearly ending his life has been embraced by the loving arms of Dan Tri readers and philanthropists. Perhaps he is no stranger to Dan Tri readers.

Recalling the night of the 10th in the morning of eve of September 11, when Hanoi fell deeply asleep, at Cardiovascular and Thoracic Center, Viet Duc University Hospital, the doctors were still busy preparing to perform a heart transplant for patient.

At 00:00 -11th September, when Hanoi was falling asleep, doctors were still busy preparing to perform a heart transplantation for Mr. Thanh.

The heart replacement is about 1 billion VND, but Thanh’s family can only arrange nearly 460 million VND. Although Thanh’s family is very poor, he cannot afford to replace his heart, but facing a very urgent situation, related to human life, doctors of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Center, Viet Duc University Hospital accepted the risks, all unanimously decided to deposit and apply for advance supplies for heart transplant surgery to save Mr. Thanh’ life.

According to Ass. Prof. Nguyen Huu Uoc, MD, PhD – Director of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Center, Viet Duc University Hospital, the heart transplantation was calculated in hours, minutes, and could not wait. Partly because the patient ‘s life is already in danger, and the brain-dead donor’s heart cannot wait any longer.

The donated organ is completely in line with Thanh’s biological indicators. This is a very rare opportunity. If the transplantation is successful, Mr. Thanh can return to work and live a normal. In addition, the heart-donor’s wish of “giving is remain forever” will also be fulfilled.

Finally, the sweat and tears of the doctors have paid off, the surgery for Mr. Thanh was successful.
