A young man had his 4 fingers amputated due to error of an industrial punching machine

Patient T.V.T. was admitted to the hospital for his 4 crushed fingers from second to fifth of the left hand without any preservability. So, an operation was performed for those fingers’ amputation.

 

 

Viet Duc University Hospital has recently received a young man with his 4 fingers amputated because of an industrial punching machine error.

 

Mr. T.V.T, 21 years old, native of Thai Nguyen Province, was admitted in emergency in the early morning of March 17^th, 2021.

 

The patient was a worker of one factory manufacturing the electronic devices. Mr.T. noted that there were 5 workers in his working line. While working, the punching machine suddenly had errors when he was putting his hand in to get the devices resulting he was crushed.

 

Mr. T. shared that although before coming into the factory, there were instructions and recommendations about many accidents related to punching machine but in his case, it happened so suddenly that he could not have any acting or handling.

 

Directly operated for T.V.T., Dr. Nguyen Tien NGOC – Lower Extremity Surgery Department, Viet Duc University Hospital said that the patient was admitted with his 4 fingers from second to fifth of the left hand being unpreservable crushed. So, an operation was performed on emergency for those fingers’ amputation.

 

Tragic accidents related to industrial punching machine are warnings about the labor safety. Almost every day, hospital receives many cases of amputated extremities, broken arm or leg due to accidents at workplace. 

 

According to Dr. NGOC, the troubling thing was that in those tragic accidents with severe damages, many patients were the Breadwinner in the family and some of them became disabled at a very young age of their life.

 

So, Dr. NGOC recommended all factories should have the prevention measures, to ensure the safety for working labors when operating those machines./.
