Between life and death, the 19-years-old boy wishes to donate organs to prolong the life

From far way Kon Tum province, the family has travelled over 1,300 km to take  Phong to Viet Duc University Hospital in hoping that Where there’s life, there’s hope… There, Phong was specially resuscitated for 24 hours. But the last hope did not come true … Between the border of life and death, Phong wished to donate his tissues and organs to bring the joy of life for other people…

 

Unfortunately, having a traffic accident, the life of Hoang Van Phong, 19 years old, resides in Kon Tum province like “a light in the wind”. From far away Kon Tum province, his family determined to travel beyond 1,300 km to transfer Phong to Viet Duc University Hospital with the hope that “Where there’s life, there’s hope” …

 

Despite being cured wholeheartedly by doctors, miracles did not come to Phong. Get over the pain and loss, his family has decided to donate organs to save and prolong other lives.

 

Sharing about his journey to win back life for his son, Mr. Hoang Van Manh (42 years old) – his father said that on January 28th, 2021, he received news that his son had an accident near his home, he and his wife quickly transferred the son to the local General Hospital Ngoc Hoi, Kon Tum; after that, Phong was transferred to Kon Tum General Hospital.

 

Phong’s parents together with their son in “the fight” to regain life for him at Viet Duc University  Hospital. And then, Phong’s family painfully repressed to fulfill his son’s wish to donate organ tissue to bring joy of life to other people.

 

The doctor explained that he could not be cured, the family continued to transfer him to 211 Military Hospital in Gia Lai province. There the doctors tried to encourage the family because his condition gets worse…

 

No more tears for pain, the family still wanted to find a last opportunity for their son, after discussing with their family, Mr. Manh and his wife decided to take him to Viet Duc University Hospital.

 

After 18 hours, supported by doctors and an ambulance at a distance of more than 1,300 km, the patient was reaching to Viet Duc University Hospital.

 

There, Phong was care and resuscitated in special conditions by doctors for 24 hours. However, the last hope did not come true…

 

Between the border of life and death, Phong’s wish was to bring the joy of life to many people.

 

After being advised by experts of  the Organ Transplant Consultation and Coordination Unit – Organ Transplantation Center, Viet Duc University Hospital, on February 1st, 2021, Phong’s family decided to donate tissues and organs to prolong the life of their son and save other lives…

 

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Quang Nghia – Organ Transplantation Center, Viet Duc University Hospital said that after receiving the patient family’s agreement, doctors took the heart, liver and 2 kidneys of Hoang Van Phong to transplant for 4 patients and 2 corneas are preserved in the Eye Bank to bring light to others.

 

Repressed the pain, Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen (40 years old) – Phong’s mother shared: “My family and doctors have tried their best to save my son, but miracles did not come to him, I only hope his organs can save other patients. When he was alive, my son had a lot of dreams. I hope organ recipients will make his dreams come true and live their life as good as my son did”.

 

Until now, Viet Duc University Hospital has performed 5 lung transplants, 36 heart transplants, 92 liver transplants and nearly 1100 kidney transplants. The hospital is also the nation’s leading center for donation and multi-organ transplantation.

 

“We hope there will be more and more people willing to donate organs if they are unfortunately lost so that the patients waiting for organ transplants have more opportunities to live” – Assoc.Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Nghia said…
