Viet Duc University Hospital continued training of screening and management of infected, suspected Covid-19 patients

In an increasingly complex disease situation, on the morning of March 23rd 2020, Viet Duc University Hospital continued to organize a training session on screening and management of infected, suspected Covid-19 patients. Previously, the hospital also organized many training sessions and scientific activities to provide information on the Covid-19 epidemic, improve knowledge and spirit of disease prevention for all officials and health workers in hospital.

 

Prof. Tran Binh Giang – Director of Viet Duc University Hospital (VDUH) shares, during the outbreak of Covid-19, the hospital implemented measures to ensure safe treatments for patients, safe environment for health workers and those around them: infected, suspected Covid-19 patients coming to VDUH need to be detected as early as possible, the shortest path of patient, the least number of contacts and the best protection. The hospital has prepared a negative pressure isolation room and is ensured isolation if a case is found and other operating rooms will work normally.

At the training session, Dr. Pham Gia Anh, MD, MA – Chief of General Planning Department presented steps on screening and managing infected, suspected Covid-19 patients, including controlling patients, their family members and healthcare workers at all the entrances of hospital and buildings should be under epidemiological, body temperature and hand sanitized. Provide directions for handling emergencies reported from lower level or other hospitals or from reception counters. There are 5 cases of emergency patients and are divided into different treatment directions to ensure safety for patients and those around them: The patient is transferred, the patient is externally monitored, the patient is undergoing minor surgery, patients with external resuscitation, patients with emergency surgery. In addition, Dr. Gia Anh stated the functions and responsibilities of the units in process of screening and handling infected, suspected Covid-19 patients.

Since the outbreak, VDUH has received and strictly implemented 36 documents from the Ministry of Health. The hospital issued internal dispatches, 21 procedures and notices on the prevention of Covid-19. Up to now, hospital has not recorded any case of Covid-19 confirmed. On March 23rd 2020, hospital continued to strictly implement patients, family members and healthcare employees’ review by hand washing, body temperature measurement, and wearing masks when enter and leave the hospital, all directed to the work of safe medical examination and treatment for people.
