In September 2019, Ngo Van Soai suffered from a traffic accident resulting in a traumatic brain injury. After emergency efforts and recovery at the hospital, Mr. Soai did not survive and was diagnosed with brain death. In order for his relatives to see him somewhere in this world, his children grow up to be proud of their father and the most important thing is to bring life to those who are waiting for organs to escape death, his family decided to sign the voluntary donation form.
Attending the ceremony, on the side of the National Coordination Center for Human Organ Transplantation was Dr. Trinh Yen Binh – Deputy Director of the Center. On behalf of the Department of Communications and Emulation and Reward – Ministry of Health has Ms. Hoang Khanh Phuong.
From Viet Duc University Hospital, there were Ass. Prof. Nguyen Quang Nghia – Director of Organ Transplantation Center; Ms. Vu Dang Dung – Deputy Chief of Personnel Department; Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngan – Member of Executive Committee of Hospital Union.
Attending the ceremony were representatives of Bac Giang Red Cross Association, leaders of Hiep Hoa district, principals of schools where his son studied and Ngo Ngo So’s family and all the people of Hiep Hoa district, Bac Giang province.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ass. Prof. Nguyen Quang Nghia – Director of Organ Transplantation Center sincere thanks to Mr. Ngo Van Soai and his family for a humane decision. Ass. Prof. Nghia said: Currently the need for organ transplants is very large, the number of waiting for organ transplants at Viet Duc University Hospital is up to hundreds of people. To get donated organs, patients have to wait for a long time. Many serious illnesses cannot wait for organ transplants and have died. According to the statistics at the Organ Transplant Center in the last 10 years, only 54 families voluntarily donated organs, which are 54 truly valuable gifts to be able to save the patients who are in the last painful stage of life. A sacrifice can bring hope to life for 5-6 others, such as the case of Mr. Soai organ donation helped save a patient with end-stage heart failure if no organ could only survive in within 1-2 weeks; 1 case of very severe cirrhotic patient who had deep coma for dialysis, now after receiving the liver was able to regain consciousness; 2 patients with kidney failure who undergo dialysis regularly now are about to be discharged from the hospital. On behalf of the organ transplant patient as well as all the health staff of Viet Duc University Hospital, I would like to express my deep gratitude to Soai’s family for helping us to carry out this noble gesture.
“We understand that every member of the family leaves a lot of pain and suffering, while being at a loss of embarrassment from people who do not understand things. We affirmed that, in order to make sure that one person could no longer live, Viet Duc University Hospital is the leading surgical hospital in the country which has mobilized more than 100 health staff on duty every day. The positive night of recovery to the last minute, when we are sure the patient will not survive, we will set up a board of 7 leading experts to diagnose, after 3 meetings to make a decision. We would like to share the pain with Mr. Soai’s family and hope that everyone will join hands to help Mr. Soai’s family to overcome this pain”- Ass. Prof. Nghia shared
The representative of Ngo Van Soai’s family shared: “The departure of Ngo Van Soai is the sudden pain of my family. On September 29, 2019, at Viet Duc University Hospital, he was treated sincerely by doctors but due to Soai’s traumatic brain injury, he was too serious to die. The doctors explained that it was impossible to cure, the family brought Soai home but when we saw his elderly mother, his wife and 3 small children, we felt sorry and prayed for some miracle to come. My family were determined to take my brother back to the hospital again and was taken to the recovery room by the doctors for 2 days but my brother did not survive. When the doctors consulted for organ donation, the family was at first confused and ripped off the conscience. When we became calmer, we decided to donate organs to help unfortunate lives rely on the source of organs to continue living.
After the ceremony, the delegation visited Mr.Soai ‘ house, lit incense for him to share with his family loss. Hope that his family always overcome pain, always stable and happy in life.
