Voluntary medical examination & blood donation: a meaningful program to raise the compassion of Viet Duc university hospital’s physicians

Today is more special day than other days, when Nguyen Thuy Linh, 13 years old, 8th grade student of Phu Linh Secondary School, Soc Son District, Hanoi with her younger brother – Nguyen Luong Huy, 6 years old, 1st grade student of Phu Linh Elementary School came to the Soc Son Health Center very early morning for free examination by Viet Duc University Hospital’s (VDUH) doctors. Sharing with their cheerful when not only getting the free consultation, with 3 others, but these two children also received the scholarships for their excellent achievements, Linh said “I am very happy to have a meaningful gift. I will try my best to become a good person for society. These meaningful gifts help nurture dreams for me and my friends.
In that morning, there were more than 200 children given a free medical consultation, medications and presents by VDUH’s doctors. They performed an ultrasound for some wondering cases in order to help diagnosis during a consultation. Many babies were screened and timely detected a disease such as: gastrointestinal disease, ENT, congenital genitourinary defects… Some cases were indicated for surgery.
In the same day, VDUH cooperated with the Red Cross in Soc Son District to organize a Blood Donation Program named “Love Giving – Hope Sending”. The program collected more than 180 blood units.
Participating in the Blood Donation Program, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen – Chairman of Soc Son District Women’s Union said: This is an annual activity of the district, showing a spirit of love sharing and supporting (“mutual love”, “love people as they love themselves “). In order to make a love spreading and increase the number of blood donor to save patient, in June 2020, VDUH cooperated with the Red Cross in Soc Son District to launch a Blood Donation Unit, located at Soc Son Health Center. Up to now, the blood donation programs always gather many people here to join. The program is divided into several phases. This time, the campaign is implemented at the communes, towns and schools. The district’s leaders is participated to donate blood at least once a year.
With a slogan “Sharing is happiness”, VDUH always pushes the social activities, blood donation, free medical consultation, supporting for the poor patients, mountainous minorities, single families, devoted families for revolution, people in an extreme difficult condition. In the coming time, VDUH continues to maintain the best conditions for the young doctors to devote their capabilities to the community healthcare.
