Dr. Ninh Viet Khai MD. PhD – Vice Director of Organ Transplant Center, Viet Duc University Hospital is performing a kidney transplant

More than one month ago, Mrs. N.T.A – grand-mother of N.H.N from Hoai Duc, Hanoi contacted to Viet Duc University Hospital to express her wish to donate her grandson’s tissue and organs because he had a severe brain hemorrhage that could not survive.

N was taken to the Viet Duc University Hospital due to serious unconscious, no reflexes, almost main organs were damaged. The doctors of the Anesthesia and Resuscitation’s Center performed resuscitation in hoping to have miracles to N. During the care of N, what surprised the medical staff was his grand-mother and parents pleading with the doctors that if they cannot save their child, please try to save other patients by organs  donation from the patient. After 02 days, his brain could not recover anymore (brain death), but luckily, some major organs (heart, liver, kidney) recovered 75%. When reporting to the family, everyone was happy but also quickly wondered: “Our child’s organs have recovered only 75%, is there any patient who can agree to accept?”. The doctors had to explain to the recipients very carefully, and finally, one agreed to accept the liver and two other agreed to receive the kidneys, unfortunately his heart and lungs are not eligible for transplantation. Currently, all recipients are in good health and already discharged.

Nearly two months later, his grand-mother and parents went to Viet Duc University Hospital, with fruits and one million dong, they said: “You worked hard day and night to save a part of our child. We don’t know what to say, we just have some fruits for you and this money will be offering to the patients, who let a part of our child in. We are very grateful to them for keeping a part of body of our child. We don’t have much, just a sincere heart to support them, and please let us send the best wishes to all recipients”.

There are people who, before leaving forever, “revive” many other lives by donating a part of their body. For their relatives, despite the endless nostalgia and the cramping grief of loss, what makes them happy and proud is that their loved one is still exists in the body of the others by the transplanted organs. The revival of lives by the humane and noble gestures is truly respectable.
