Workshop: Strategies for the use of antibiotics in surgery – improving the quality of patient care
24/05/2021 07:25
Antibiotics are a tool for management of infections when used as indicated and with caution. Inappropriate use leads to antibiotic resistance, because bacteria are “accustomed” to the drug and have mechanisms to fight the drug. At that time, antibiotics will no longer be effective against bacteria, the patient needs to be treated with a stronger, broader spectrum antibiotic. Additionally, when bacteria become “multi-resistant” or “super-resistant”, no antibiotics will work and the patient is at risk of death because there is no longer a suitable treatment.
In order to continue to improve professional qualifications, update knowledge in the use of antibiotics, and therefore, the use of antibiotics is more correct and effective, thereby improving the quality of treatment for patients. On April 29, 2021, Training and Direction of Healthcare Activities Center in collaboration with Anesthesia and Surgical Intensive Care Center, Viet Duc University Hospital has organized a Workshop on Strategies for the use of antibiotics in surgery.
