Remotely directing emergency treatment for a pediatric patient with serious injuries in a traffic accident.

Through the telemedicine system, the doctors of Viet Duc University Hospital (VDUH) consulted and directed management on emergency for a pediatric patient in Yen Bai seriously injured in a traffic accident.

 

The experts of VDUH consulted and remotely directed management on emergency for the pediatric patient at Nghia Lo General Hospital, Yen Bai.

 

A 5-year-old boy, was hit by a car while walking. Soon he was admitted to Nghia Lo General Hospital with a diagnosis of traumatic shock: traumatic brain injury (TBI), left clavicle fracture, left tibia and fibula fracture, crushed left foot.

 

The patient with crushed left foot, fracture of left tibia and fibula, left clavicle fracture, traumatic brain injury.

 

Through the telemedicine system, at 9pm on July 13th, 2021, the experts of VDUH, including:  Nguyen Viet Hoa, MD, PhD – Head of Pediatric and Neonatal Surgery Department; Le Nguyen Vu, MD, PhD – team leader on duty; Nguyen Van Hoc, MD, PhD – Leader of Traumatic and Orthopedic Surgery team; Hoang Thi Thu Ha MD, MS – Leader of Anesthesia and Surgical Intensive Care team; performed an emergency consultation and gave remote direction to Nghia Lo General Hospital for management of patient. As soon as the consultation was over, the patient was transferred to VDUH for emergency surgery that night. The operation was successful, saving his life also preserving his crushed left foot.
