A 91-year-old grandmother diagnosed with Covid-19 was revived after 2 weeks of intensive treatment

“Thank you guys so much!” 91-year-old P.T.L, a grandmother living in Binh Hung Hoa ward, Binh Tan district, Ho Chi Minh City repeated many times after defeating the SARS-CoV-2 so she could come back home to reunite with her family. Mrs P.T.L was one of many elderly Covid – 19 patients with various comorbidities  successfully treated at the Intensive Care Center for Covid – 19 patients affiliated to Viet Duc University Hospital (VDUH) in Ho Chi Minh City. Each patient cured and discharged from the hospital was an invaluable gift to encourage the doctors and nurses working in a place where the end was nowhere to be seen.

 

Mr Van Duc Hanh, MD – the Intensive Care Center for Covid – 19  patients affiliated to VDUH in Ho Chi Minh City was encouraging Mrs. P.T.L.

 

Mr Van Duc Hanh, MD – who directly treated Mrs. P.T.L – said: “Mrs. P.T.L was admitted to VDUH in a respiratory distress condition because of severe pneumonia, generally weak physical condition due to many comorbidities and immunodeficiency system. In order to treat her, in addition to using antiviral drugs, we also took care her comprehensively, including: helping for feeding, personal hygiene, talking to, and encouraging her. Thanks to that, her physical condition greatly improved and she responded well to treatment. She defeated Covid – 19 and was discharged.”

 

Mrs P.T.L was discharged from the hospital after 2 weeks of treatment at the Intensive Care Center for Covid – 19 patients affiliated to VDUH in Ho Chi Minh City.

 

To treat Covid-19 patients in severe condition, especially elderly patients with many comorbidities, the Intensive Care Center affiliated to VDUH had deployed many high techniques such as ECMO, invasive mechanical ventilation, HFNC, hemodialysis… Thanks to that, many Covid-19 patients in severe and critical condition were miraculously revived.
