Doctor Le Nguyen Vu, MD, PhD, Deputy Director of Organ Transplant Centers, shift leader on September 2 shared: During the holiday on September 2nd, many children were taken to the emergency at Viet Duc University Hospital. Most of the injuries were serious and complicated caused by traffic accidents, affecting their children’s learning and growing up for a very long time. The accidents are all due to poor parental awareness when participating in traffic after drinking on holidays.

T.K.L (6 years old, Hanoi) was transferred to the hospital due to a motorcycle accident. She has taken out by her father on holiday after using alcohol. L had a scratch in the inguinal knee, a complicated 4x5cm perineal wound with lots of soil, no rectal perforation, a partial rupture of the sphincter, a wound in the right knee, jagged, many different veins, and exposed tendons. After having examined and indicated the necessary tests, L promptly was performed emergency surgery. Two surgical teams conducted in the same surgery.

Dr. Nguyen Viet Hoa, MD, PhD, Head of Pediatric and Neonatal Surgery Department, has performed a debridement of the crushed tissue, sutured the external sphincter, stitched and reconstructed the vaginal wound for L. In the same time, the trauma team leading by Dr. Dr. Nguyen Van Hoc, Deputy Head of Upper Extremity Surgery and Sports Medicine Department, performed debridement and suture on the patient’s knee wound. After surgery, the patient was being treated at the Department of Pediatric and Neonatal Surgery, awake, eating well, the wounds are taken care and dressing daily.

Another case was N.D.Q. (6 years old from Thai Nguyen province) had a pedestrian-car traffic accident. She was transferred to Viet Duc University Hospital in a conscious state, with scratches all over her body, a complicated wound in the perineum measuring 10×2 cm.  In the wound, there was a lot of fecal and the lesions were spreading to the back, breaking the entire sphincter. Doctor Nguyen Viet Hoa, MD, PhD, Head of Pediatric and Neonatal Surgery Department, performed emergency surgery with debridement of soft tissue and treated perineal wounds, and the colostomy was also done for that case. Currently, on the 5th post-operative day, the patient is awake, eating well, being taken care of the wound.
