Resource Exchange International – REI Vietnam visited and worked at Viet Duc University Hospital

Resource Exchange International – REI (USA) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization which has been established since 1990. Currently REI is present in many countries such as Vietnam, China, Egypt, Laos, Indonesia, Jordan …etc. REI operates with the purpose is for fostering and developing countries’ human resources in many fields such as Medicine, Language, Social Activities, Economics..etc.
Viet Duc University Hospital is a leading hospital in surgery, with the capacity to receive dozen thousand patients per year. Therefore, health care during patient treatment is essential and must always be updated daily. In the journey of 120 years of establishment and development, the hospital has received many supports from international organizations and exchange program for the nursing care through clinical visits and training such as the REI organization in association with the doctors of Viet Duc University Hospital (VDUH) recently to show the effectiveness.
Attending the meeting, on the side of VDUH, there were Dr. Bui Trung Nghia – MD, PhD, Head of the International Cooperation Department, Deputy Head of the Oncology Department; Mr. Tran Van Oanh , MA– Head of the Nursing Department; Mrs. Bui Thi Kim Nhung, MA – Deputy Head of the Nursing Department; Mr. Chu Van Long,MA – Deputy Head of the Nursing Department; Dr. Do Vu Anh, MD –International Cooperation Department and several head nurses from other departments.
At the side of REI Vietnam, there were Mrs. Tran Phuong Lien – Head of REI Vietnam Representative Office; Associate Professor Jenni Ziebarth – Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse, Saint Louis University; Mrs. Barbara J. Carlson – Expert on Wound Care, Sutter Medical Center, and Mrs. Kathryn Lynn Cowie – expert of Surgical Cardiovascular ICU of London Health Sciences Centre and Ontario, Canada.
Dr Bui Trung Nghia, MD, PhD – Head of International Cooperation Department, Deputy Head of Oncology Department, Viet Duc University Hospital shared: “Experts from REI Vietnam have supported the hospital in conducting many training courses and updating evidence-based practices such as caring for ventilated patients, caring for patients with peripheral IV, caring for patients using medication…”
Mr Tran Van Oanh, MA – Head of Nursing Department, VDUH expressed his hope that the signing of further MOU between the two sides will be happened. At the same time, VDUH in general and the Nursing Department in particular wish to cooperate and develop with REI in two following areas in the future:
+ Expert exchange: REI supports in arranging the doctors and nurses from VDUH to visit, study and exchange the experience with colleagues in developed countries.
+ Coordinating the scientific research in medicine in general and in nursing care, in particular, especially for conducting high-quality researches that can be published in prestigious international journals.
The meeting with a warm atmosphere was highly successful for exchanging the further cooperation activities in developing the nursing activities of VDUH in particular and improving the quality of the nursing care in general.
