A 6 –year – old boy had his genital bitten by a dog

On April 22nd, 2021, L.T.Đ.A, a 6-year-old boy from Viet Tri – Phu Tho was admitted to Viet Duc University Hospital due to a dog bit of his genital.

 

As his family recalled, on April 22nd, the boy was attacked by a maternal dog when he went to his neighbor’s house. He was admitted to Viet Duc University Hospital (VDUH) with severe degloving injuries on his penis. Fortunately, he did not sustain any injuries to his testicle and urethra.

 

According to Dr. Bui Van Quang, MD. (Center for Andrology and Sexual Medicine, VDUH), the patient had essential tests ran an operation was promptly performed to debride the wounds, remove necrotic tissues and reconstruct the penis. 12 days post-op, A. was stable and ready for discharge. The dog was injected with Rabies vaccine and continued to be monitored.

 

Dr.Trinh Hoang Giang, MD, MS, Deputy Director of Center for Andrology and Sexual Medicine, VDUH recommended: when experiencing similar injuries, patients should be provided the first aid on site, controlled bleeding, taken to the nearest medical facility for further management of injuries. If A. had not been treated in time, he would have been at risk of infection, necrosis of the skin of his penis, more challenges for further surgeries and treatment.
