On admission to Viet Duc University Hospital, the patient was diagnosed with intestinal perforation due to foreign objects.

Dr. Tao Minh Chau, MSc, MD – Department of Abdominal Emergency Surgery, Viet Duc University Hospital, said that doctors performed laparoscopic surgery to resect out the damaged intestine, remove foreign object, and restore gastrointestinal tract for the patient. The foreign object removed was a solid stewed red apple seed with two ends, 2cm long, which pierces two walls of intestinal loop.

In the first day of post-surgery, the patient was awake, pulse, blood pressure stable, no fever, mild abdominal pain at the incision location and was able to eat light food.

According to Dr. Chau, MD- stewed red apple seeds are hard, with two sharp ends, and dangerous foreign objects if eaten without removal. Therefore, Dr. Chau recommends everyone that when eating fruits with seeds, should remove the seeds, especially with two-headed sharp seeds such as red apples.
