Falling on his own after drinking alcohol, 25-year-old man ruptured his testicle associated with cervical spine injury.

On August 14th, doctors from the Andrology Center, Viet Duc University Hospital, had performed urgent surgery on for a 25-year-old male patient N.C.D, residing in Quang Ninh province with injured testicular caused by motorcycle accident after drinking alcohol, the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was 27 mmol/l.

 

Mr. D was admitted to the hospital with swelling, bruising, hematoma on the left scrotum, pain in the cervical spine due to a motorcycle accident after drinking alcohol. Dr. Nguyen Duy Khanh, MD, MSc – Andrology Center, Viet Duc University Hospital informed: Findings on ultrasound examination confirmed that Mr.D had injury on his left testicle with bilateral testicular fluid accumulation, associated spines fracture at C4. The patient was indicated for surgery on emergency. During the operation, the lesions found that the left testicle were swollen, bruised, broken at the lower pole with the size of 4x5cm, left spermatic parenchyma were also crushed and about 40% lost. The surgeons have removed the hematoma and did the hemostasis, and repaired the left testicle capsule. Currently, after the first day of surgery, the patient’s health is stable.

 

 

Injury on testicular could have many causes. Most commonly are due to daily-life accidents such as kicking the genitals or traffic accidents. The group of patients with testicular trauma due to traffic accidents related to alcohol drinking is increasing day by day and always accompanied by cervical spine injury, traumatic brain injury, which can put the patient in a critical condition. Management of testicular trauma in young patients always requires skilled and experienced doctor in Andrology so that the testes could be preserved, especially in young, unmarried, childless patients, Dr. Khanh emphasized.
