Happiness returning to patient after many years suffering herniated disc

Sharing about the journey to find happiness after many years of living with herniated disc, especially the accident in daily life that made Mr. Ng. to suffer even more, Ms. P.T.N – his wife said: Fearing the Covid-19 pandemic and wondering about the medical facility could be chosen for treatment, they were referred by relatives to VDUH. From Moc Chau – Son La, they decided to go to Hanoi City for seeking treatment. From being in pain and unable to walk but had to lie on a stretcher, right after the operation, Mr. Ng was able to walk on his own and was able to leave the hospital 1 day after. During the operation, Mr. NG talked to the doctor and moved his legs when was asking by the doctor. This helps to maximize the safety of surgery. After the operation, the patient is instructed in the right exercises to maintain a healthy spine.

Currently, herniated disc becomes very common, especially in the lumbar spine. Some causes of the disease are: age, excessive exercise or wrong posture, trauma genetic or congenital diseases… In fact, many people come to the hospital when they are already in a severe stage of damage, even when the spine is deformed, affecting nerve function such as pain spreading to the hands and feet along with weakness in the legs and arms…. Early detection and timely treatment will help reduce and better control the degeneration of spine.

 

Therefore, doctors recommend: if you have any manifestations of back bone problem, you need to go to specialized medical facilities on spine – neurology for accurate examination and diagnosis. Doctors will provide timely treatment to prevent the disease affecting the quality of life and health of patients. In the past, patient with the lumbar disc herniated would have to undergo the open surgery with the risk of soft tissue damage, possible loosening of the spine or nerve damage, but at VDUH, the minimally invasive surgery has many advantages such as fasted recovery time, improved efficiency and safety for patients. Single-port laparoscopic surgery with an incision of only about 7mm helps to minimize any further complications. Clinical symptoms such as incisional pain are minimal, painful and leg numbness are reduced.
