Man with phimosis was diagnosed penile cancer has been long time for consultation

Recently, Center For Andrology and Sexual Medicine, Viet Duc University Hospital (VDUH) admitted one 72-year-old man named H.V.C after he went to a local clinic for a circumcision and where he was detected one important vegetating lesion on his penis.

 

Inquiry into the patient’s medical history revealed he had been suffering from phimosis for a very long time, his foreskin couldn’t be pulled back but he never went to see a doctor. Mr. C could still urinate, he even got married and had children normally. However, in the recent year, he could feel a gradually hardening mass in his penis head and urination got harder and harder. Mr. C conducted his own online research and went to a local private clinic to get a circumcision. After the procedure, he still had trouble urinating and the mass in his penis head started to leak blood. Only then was he alarmed enough to come to VDUH.

 

 

According to Bui Van Quang, MD, MSc (Center For Andrology and Sexual Medicine, VDUH), the patient had been aware of his phimosis for a long time, but embarrassment prevented him from seeking medical attention. Only when he could feel a strange mass in his penis head that he came to a local private clinic for a quick and discreet treatment. Physical examination revealed a mass encroaching the entire glans penis with several points of necrosis leaking blood typical of penile cancer. Tissue biopsy gave a result of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The patient was diagnosed the penile cancer and was indicated for penectomy with bilateral inguinal lymphadenectomy.

 

Nguyen Quang, Asoc.Prof, PhD, MD (Director of the Center of Andrology, VDUH) said: Penile cancer is a common ailment in the field of andrology. It might be caused by various factors, but the most common being untreated phimosis. Phimosis causes stagnant urine, creating an ideal environment for bacteria and viruses to flourish, and eventually turning cells cancerous. Patients of this kind are usually aware of their tight foreskins from an early age but due to ignorance and embarrassment never sought out medical attention until they can feel an abnormal mass in their penis. When they came to medical facilities their status had usually already developed into penile cancer.

 

According to the experts, men should come to medical facilities with a reputable medical teams for examination, consultation and treatment as soon as they detected any abnormalities in their foreskins or penises to avoid such dire consequences.
