Osteosynthesis of 5 bone fractured at the same tome for a male patient with severe trauma due to road traffic accident

Recently, Viet Duc University Hospital’s doctors performed an operation of combined bone fractures for a male patient named V.Đ.V., 16 years old, from Nam Dinh Province.

 

Doctor DO Vu Anh – Department of Upper Extremities Surgery and Sport Medicine, Viet Duc University Hospital and his team operated for patient V.Đ.V., 16 years old.

 

1h45 last morning of 3rd November, patient V.Đ.V. was transferred to Viet Duc University Hospital after having an road traffic accident with multi-trauma: injury of liver and right kidney, bilateral fractures of forearms, femurs and legs.

 

From the 3rd to 25th November, the patient stayed in the Digestive Surgery Department, Viet Duc University Hospital for monitoring the abdominal trauma and at the same time for intensive care of other injuries before being operated for bone fractures. 

 

On 26th November, patient V. was operated by Doctor DO Vu Anh – Department of Upper Extremities Surgery and Sport Medicine, Viet Duc University Hospital and his team for multiple osteosynthesis of all fractures. This was a special surgical case with combined bone fractures at the same time in order to reduce the pain and complications. Doctor DO Vu Anh shared that without timely operation, patient might suffer from some complications such as muscular atrophy and joint stiffness. However, osteosynthesis of many bones at a time was at high risk of infection, bleeding, so orthopedic surgeons have a smooth cooperation with anesthesiologists for this surgery.  Postoperatively, patient was intensively cared with rehabilitation heading toward a soon complete recovery.

 

Recently, on 1st December, doctors from Department of Upper Extremities Surgery and Sport Medicine, Viet Duc University Hospital also performed other combined bone fractures for a poly-trauma patient N.V.Q., 48 years old, from Dong Anh District including right arm, femoral neck and legs. This was a traffic accident case with extremely complicated injuries and multiple fractures requiring very experienced doctors and also multiple disciplinary team for timely resuscitation and operation.
