People in Ha Giang province benefit the quality health care by the projects of 1816 satellite hospital and telemedicine

Recently, the delegation of Viet Duc University Hospital led by Prof. Tran Binh Giang – Director of the Hospital conducted monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of the implementation of Projects including: 1816 and telemedicine in 2022 and survey of training and technical transfer for Ha Giang Provincial General Hospital and Dong Van District General Hospital (specializing in Surgery, Anesthesia, Resuscitation, Diagnostic Imaging…); organized a training program specializing in Cardiovascular Surgery and Pediatric and Neonatal Surgery; organized a screening program for birth defects for children. Joining the delegation were representatives and leaders of: Center of Training and Healthcare Activities Direction, Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Center of Anesthesia and Surgical Resuscitation, Center of Cardiovascular and thoracic surgery; Department of Orthopedic examination and Outpatient; Department of Emergency Digestive Surgery; Department of Nephrology and Dialysis, Department of Anatomic Pathology – Cytological pathology and Forensic Medicine, Department of Oncology, Tissue Bank.
At Ha Giang Provincial General Hospital, Mr. Tran Duc Quy, Vice Chairman of Ha Giang Provincial People’s Committee welcomed the delegation and shared: Ha Giang is a province in the Northeast region of Vietnam. It borders Cao Bang province to the east, Yen Bai and Lao Cai provinces to the west, and Tuyen Quang province to the south. With the harsh terrain and weather in Ha Giang province, people faces many difficulties, especially in seeking the good health care. With the support of Viet Duc University Hospital in terms of technology transfer in medicine, Ha Giang people have received high-quality medical services at the satellite hospital without transferal to central hospitals, reducing difficulties for patients and local budgets, saving costs for patients’ families. In addition, doctors at the Provincial General Hospital have the opportunity to improve their technical expertise, update new knowledge, and contribute to improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, enhancing the reputation of doctors, reducing professional errors in treating patients, especially for difficult cases, emergency cases. At the meeting, Mr. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee expressed sincere gratitude to the delegates of Viet Duc University Hospital for their affection for the health sector of Ha Giang province, and wished to receive more support from Viet Duc University Hospital in taking care of people’s health.
Also during the meeting, Prof. Tran Binh Giang, Director of Viet Duc University Hospital highly appreciated the results of the 1816 satellite hospital project of Ha Giang Provincial General Hospital such as: reducing the quantity of patients would be transferred to higher-level hospitals due to traumatic brain injury, brain abscess, gastrointestinal anomalies, pediatric urology, endoscopic lithotripsy, traumatic liver resection… Those are the new steps for the Provincial General Hospital to continue to receive the transfer of new techniques in the coming time.
Specialist level II. Nguyen Van Giao, Acting Director of Ha Giang Provincial Department of Health shared: Ha Giang Provincial General Hospital, Dong Van District General Hospital… are among the health facilities in Ha Giang province that have been supported with technology transfer by Viet Duc University Hospital for many specialties such as: trauma surgery, diagnostic imaging, endoscopy, general surgery, anesthesia resuscitation… Although the lack of facilities and human resources, the medical team of health facilities in Ha Giang province have actively made efforts to learn and improve knowledge from the experts of Viet Duc University Hospital for proficient implementation of techniques they learnt to for people’s health care.
In order to help surgeons at Ha Giang Provincial General Hospital update their latest knowledge, understand the principles of diagnosis and first aid as well as treat some mild diseases within the framework of working program in Ha Giang province, Viet Duc University Hospital successfully organized a training program in Cardiology Surgery, Pediatric and Neonatal surgery with the participation of experts from Viet Duc University Hospital.
One of the meaningful activities organized by Viet Duc University Hospital was to conduct a screen of children for birth defects. Dr. Nguyen Viet Hoa – Head of Pediatric and Neonatal Surgery Department directly examined children at Provincial General Hospital. Although there are many difficulties in remote area and distance, many families, upon learning about the program that brought their children, came to receive expert advice, screening, and health checks.
During the business trip, Prof. Tran Binh Giang – Director of Viet Duc University Hospital and members of the delegation had a working session with leaders and all medical staff of Dong Van District General Hospital about the results obtained from Projects of 1816 and Telemedicine for the further develop professional techniques for effective health care services.
From 2020 to 2022, Dong Van District General Hospital has registered to participate in the training program and benefit from Project 1816 from Viet Duc University Hospital. Within 02 years, there were one surgeon certificated at basic laparoscopic level, one primary radiologist, two basic ultrasound doctors. After being trained, doctors have mastered professional techniques in home town.
In addition, Dong Van District General Hospital has performed medical examination, treatment and health care for people in Dong Van district, and neighboring communes of Meo Vac district, domestic and international tourists when facing health problems. The average number of patients examined is 80-120 patients per day. The hospital bed occupancy is always over 120% of the planned bed (there is a period when the capacity is over 200%, as it is now (in October), the number of inpatients at the Hospital ranges from 190-250 patients.
The Department of Diagnostic Imaging of Dong Van District General Hospital is one of the departments that have received technical transfer: basic diagnostic imaging, general abdominal ultrasound. After training provided by Viet Duc University Hospital, doctors and nurses were able to perform techniques which they learnt and highly appreciated by patients and their relatives through monthly patient satisfaction survey.
After surveying and evaluating the quality of medical staff and equipment at Ha Giang Provincial General Hospital, Dong Van District General Hospital, Viet Duc University Hospital will continue to sign cooperation agreements with other medical facilities of Ha Giang province for training, transfer techniques in order to bring more efficiency in health examination and care for people in the top regions of the country.
