Taking care of the Covid-19 elderly patients like relatives, medical staff of Viet Duc University Hospital brings joy, trust to patients

When Covid-19 pandemic affects worldwide, Viet Nam also has many infected cases of virus SARS-CoV-2. Health facilities always have to highly concentrate in working, equipment and human resource to take care, save many severe patients are “between life and death”, the number of death often increases highly among the elderly, with background disease.

Not long ago in 2021, the image of Mrs. P.T.L, 91 years old had Covid-19 in a severe state that recovered after 2 weeks of intensive resuscitation treatment at Intensive Resuscitation Center for Covid-19 patients affiliated Viet Duc University Hospital in Ho Chi Minh city left many impressions. “I am so grateful all of you!” is the sentence that Mrs. P.T.L, resident at Binh Hung Hoa ward, Binh Tan dist. Ho Chi Minh city repeated many times after won the virus SARS-CoV-2 and returned to reunion with family. Mrs. P.T.L is one of the elderly have Covid-19 with background diseases that were successfully treated at Viet Duc Covid-19 Intensive Resuscitation Center. Each healthy patient, discharge is a priceless gift that mentally inspires for doctors at a place seems like no day or no such things.

 

When the Covid-19 pandemic becomes complicated in Hanoi capital, Viet Duc University Hospital continues to take in and treat Covid-19 patients following directions from the Ministry of Health. A unit that collects and treats Covid-19 patients with dedicated medical staff, most of whom have returned from the South, does not manage day and night to wholeheartedly take care of Covid-19 patients like relatives.

That is the case of 97-year-old man, Mr. V.V.S., who was treated and discharged from the Covid-19 patient collection and treatment unit of Viet Duc University Hospital. Sharing the joy from the reunion day, VVS’s family said: “Our great-grandfather’s age was rare in the past, had a stroke and had not been vaccinated, unfortunately he contracted the disease, the whole family was very worried, and even thought of the worst-case scenario. Yet it is truly miraculous that doctors of Viet Duc University Hospital brought him back from the dead to our family to fully enjoy this Lunar New Year. Sincere thanks to doctors and nurses of Viet Duc University Hospital who have taken care of and treated our family members day and night, and the staff of collection and treatment Covid-19 patient unit.”

 

Commenting on the case of Mr. VVS, Dr. Tran Tuan Anh – MD, who directly takes care of and treats patients, said: this is a rather special case, we know that the risk is very high for elderly patients such as Mr. S, even if there is no underlying disease because of fibrous lungs, respiratory function is weak so when infected with Covid-19, it is very easy to have respiratory failure. With the efforts of all our colleagues in the past time taking care of patient, the recovery of the elderly patients not only brings joy to patients and their family, but we also improve our professional care experience in take care and treatment for Covid-19 patients, especially those at high risk of severe illness (the elderly, people with underlying medical conditions).

 

The smiles, handshakes, warm hugs from patients on the day of discharge motivated energy for doctors, medical staff of Viet Duc University Hospital firmly on the journey of taking care and protecting people’s health.
