The Minister of Health praised “immediately” Viet Duc University Hospital doctors who set a record for 15 organ transplantations /week

 On 23th August, Viet Duc University Hospital held a ceremony to be awarded certificates of merit by Minister of Ministry of Health to Viet Duc University Hospital and the hospital’s teams have had an outstandingly successful record in successfully implementing 15 organ transplantations from August 12-18, 2019.

 

At the ceremony, Prof. Nguyen Thi Kim Tien – The Minister of Health, Head of the Committee for Health Care of country leaders, praised collectives and individuals who had unexpectedly outstanding achievements in successfully implementing 15 organ transplantations in just 6 days. (from August 12-18, 2019). 

 

Minister emphasized, with 15 organ transplantations (10 organ transplants from brain-dead donors including lung, 2 hearts, 3 liver, 4 kidneys; and 5 organ transplants from living donors including: 1 liver, 4 kidneys) made a sudden impression breakthrough, showing the great efforts of the leadership from Viet Duc University Hospital and health staff. This is also a record of labor productivity, devoted to the sick. However, the Minister also advised the physicians to stay healthy to meet the requirements, the work pressure is getting heavier.

 

The success of the “Organ Transplantation Week” also has to mention the role and effective operation of the National Coordinating Center on donation and transplantation of human organs (Ministry of Health) that has helped to coordinate, connect among hospitals throughout the country, connecting to carry out timely organ transplants to cure many seriously ill people.

 

In particular, the Minister expressed her joy that at present people’s awareness about the issue of organ transplantation has had many positive changes. Many families of brain-dead donors and their relatives have high consensus in tissue and organ donation to save seriously ill people.

15 organ transplant patients were in stable health condition, 2 were discharged from the hospital 

 

Updating on the health condition of 15 patients received organ transplantation, Ass. Prof. Nguyen Quang Nghia – Director of Organ Transplantation Center, Viet Duc University Hospital mentioned, currently, 15 patients with organ transplants have stabilized health, including 2 patients have been discharged from hospital, other cases are progressing well. 

 

Up to this point, Viet Duc University Hospital is the leading institution in the country for organ transplantations, especially for difficult cases. With the successful transplant of 10 organ transplantations from brain-dead donors and 5 organ transplantations performed from the living donor program in just one week, it has brought health to the patients; at the same time contributing to bringing the level of organ transplantation of Vietnamese medicine to a new level on the world medical map.

 

Prof. Tran Binh Giang – Director of Viet Duc University Hospital expressed his emotion and thanks for the attention and close guidance of the Minister of Health to the hospital’s operation. This is the timely motivation to encourage doctors to contribute more to the patients.

According to Prof. Tran Binh Giang, currently doctors of Viet Duc University Hospital not only perform many complicated organ transplantations, routine organ transplantations but support, transfer organ transplantation technique – particularly the kidney transplantation to other health facilities, like Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An…. Some places have done routine kidney transplantation, helping patients not to go to higher levels, reducing costs for patients. 

 

Director of Viet Duc University Hospital also said, hospital is focus on develop high, specialized medicial techniques, improve patients’ treatment quality in order to decrease the amount for abroad treatment; at the same time implement “rewind string” by attrach foreign patients come to Vietnam for treatment…

 

Within almost 1 week (from 12/8 to 18/8) – so called “Organ transplantation week”, with the support and coordination of the National Coordination Center for organ transplantation, Cho Ray Hospital, VietnamAirlines, and the great efforts of the medical staff from Viet Duc University Hospital, The hospital performed up to 10 organ transplants from brain-dead donors (lungs, 2 hearts, 3 livers, 4 kidneys) with multi-organ donation from Viet Duc University Hospital (2 cases) và Cho Ray Hospital (1 case).

 

All transplants yield favorable results. In addition, the hospital continues to perform 5 organ transplants from a living donor (1 liver, 4 kidneys). There are up to 15 organ transplants in 6 days.

 

According to statistics, in the past 10 years (2009 – 2019), at Viet Duc University Hospital has 57 brain-dead patients donate organ. Doctors conducted 25 heart transplants, 2 lung transplants, 54 liver transplants and 99 kidney transplants.
