Pediatric surgeons recommend that hydronephrosis and urological pathologies in children can be completely treated by surgery, early surgery will cure the disease and helps them to return to normal life. If this disease lasts for a long time, it will affect kidney function and lead to kidney failure…
On May 21, about 200 children were examined, consulted, and conducted X-rays, and ultrasounds without any charges by doctors from the Department of Pediatric and Neonatal Surgery, Viet Duc University Hospital for detecting the common diseases in children such as congenital urogenital abnormalities, digestive diseases (constipation, anal malformations, congenital tumors); genital malformations (hypospadias, ectopic testicle, phimosis)…
In the morning, there were about 30% of the pediatric patients detected the diseases of the urinary tract, congenital urogenital abnormalities, and digestive tract indicated for surgeries.
Especially, in the past time, due to COVID-19 pandemic affected, many children with diseases such as congenital urogenital abnormalities, and digestive diseases,… had no chance to be examined regularly and promptly treated, leading to the serious progression of diseases.
One special case of a 11-year-old boy resident in Hanoi, although his family knows that he had an urinary tract low deviation as known as hypospadias when he was only one month old. However, because of many reasons, his family did not take him to see a doctor. At the examination, he was indicated for surgery for this matter, and to repair the penis together to improve his quality of life before he will get puberty without guilt and low self-esteem.
Dr. Nguyen Viet Hoa, PhD ,MD, Head of the Department of Pediatric and Neonatal Surgery, said that each year, the department examines about 10,000 children and performs an average of 2,000 surgeries, including many complicated cases. Because hydronephrosis is a congenital disease, many children could be detected while they are still in the womb. This disease affects kidney function.
Therefore, once the disease is detected, if the child is able to be operated early, the ability of recovery is high. If not, the late interventions will impact to kidney function, which may lead to kidney failure later.
The rate of children with congenital urogenital abnormalities accounts for two-thirds of the total number of patients at clinic of the Department. On average, there are about 10 operations performed for repair of congenital urogenital abnormalities per day.
