Treating many foreign patients having accidents while traveling

VTV.vn – Many foreign patients having accidents while traveling in the highlands were promptly treated at Viet Duc University Hospital.
Recently, one French patient named A.E. (female, 30 years old) had a trip with friends by motorbike to Dong Van, Ha Giang. Unfortunately on December 31, an accident was happened, Ms. A.E was taken to a hospital in Hanoi, but beyond their professional capacity, she was transferred to Viet Duc University Hospital right at the moment of the new year’s eve – 0:00 on January 1, 2023.
At Viet Duc University Hospital, the patient was promptly examined by doctors, many complicated injuries were detected: supracondylar and intercondylar fracture of the humerus, fracture of the ulna, dislocation of the radial head, presenting with left radial nerve palsy.
Ms. A.E was indicated for surgery in a timely manner. Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Manh Khanh, Vice-Director of the hospital, Head of the Department of Upper Extremities Surgery and Sports Medicine directly has examined and operated for her by osteosynthesis with screw braces of the humerus and ulna, straighten the radial head, examine the left radial nerve.
The surgery duration was in 1 hour and ended successfully, helping to restore movement early.
On January 6, Viet Duc University Hospital received another foreign patient, Ms E.L. American nationality, was admitted to the hospital with closed fractures of femur, left radial bone and 4th finger of the left hand.
Ms. E.L was performed surgery on emergency for intramedullary nailing for the femur fractures, and oteosynthesis of left radial bones with a screw brace. Currently, the patient is stable and will be discharged for going back to the country.
It is known that the patient traveled alone to Vietnam, unfortunately having a traffic accident when riding a motorbike on a high rocky mountain area during the New Year event.
Foreign patients are characterized by single travel, no relatives and do not use much domestic cash.
