Viet Duc College of Medicine and Biomedical Equipment oriented for high school students: Open door to the future

Career – orientation is always one of significant issues, has positive impact on major, and career selection for high school students, especially to the senior students. This is an activity that helps students to understand and assess comprehensively themselves and know about major, career, school to choose a job tendency which matches their preferences, strengths, and abilities.

On 26th March 2023, Viet Duc College of Medicine and BioMedical Equipment collaborated with Hung Vuong General Hospital, Phu Tho organized successfully the career-oriented extracurricular program to learn about the medical profession that attracted nearly 300 students and parents of Doan Hung High School and other neighboring high school participated.

Attending the program, on the side of Viet Duc College of Medicine and BioMedical Equipment, there were Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Duc Tien, MD, PhD – Advisory Board, Dr. Nguyen Huu Tu, MSc – Vice Principal, Mrs. Tran Thi Hong Tham, MA – Vice Principal and faculty members of the school. On the side of Hung Vuong General Hospital, there were Mr. Tran Lien Viet – Member of the Board of Directors, Deputy General Director of the Hospital; Dr. Dang Thanh Hai, 1st degree specialist – Director of the Hospital, and representatives of departments. In addition, there was the participation of Mr. Vi Khanh Toan – Principal of Doan Hung High School, representatives of the parents’ association, 120 students of Doan Hung High School and the attendance of teachers representing 10 other high schools in Phu Tho and Tuyen Quang provinces.

 During the extra-curricular session, parents and high school students were able to directly visit and experience the medical examination and treatment activities at Hung Vuong General Hospital and learn about the development and enrollment process of Viet Duc College of Medicine and BioMedical Equipment.

The most impression that students and parents gained from this program is the ideas exchange, direct dialogue with the Advisory Board – the forerunner in the health sector. The students boldly raised their questions about the medicine and career/job that they wanted to learn. All concerns and questions have been shared and answered promptly by the Program Advisory Board.

Through this exchange, the students partly visualized the nature of the job they wanted to pursue, helping them choose a direction in accordance with their abilities, interests, and personal conditions; have the right orientation on choosing majors and occupations suitable to social needs after graduating from high school. At the same time, it can be seen that Viet Duc College of Medicine and BioMedical Equipment is a reliable training address for the students to pursue the medical profession.

Sharing at the end of this talk, Nguyen Luong Hoang Anh, grade 12A1, Doan Hung High School shared: “I have chosen a school and major for myself, but I still have concerns about the career and profession I have chosen. Through the counseling session, we were able to talk directly with the advisors to answer questions, thereby helping me strengthen my confidence in my choice.”

 The extra-curricular program went well. Hope the students continue to make more efforts and actions, try harder in the upcoming “race”, to pursue and make their dreams come true.
