On the morning of March 27, 2023, the delegation of Viet Duc University Hospital led by Prof. Tran Binh Giang, MD, PhD – Director of the Hospital as the head of the delegation, had a business trip to survey and evaluate the current status of facilities, equipment, human resources, capacity and ability to receive the technical package of Kidney Transplantation at Bach Mai Hospital; Determining the list of techniques that need to be trained and transferred; Consulting, guiding the preparation of facilities, equipment, and human resources to ensure the conditions for receiving the Kidney Transplant technical package.
Welcoming the delegation, from Bach Mai Hospital, there were: Dr. Duong Duc Hung, MD, PhD – Chairman of the Hospital Council; Assoc. Prof. Dao Xuan Co, MD, PhD – Director of the Hospital; Board of Directors with doctors, technicians of many specialized in Bach Mai Hospital.
Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Tran Binh Giang, MD, PhD – Director of Viet Duc University Hospital said: Viet Duc University Hospital is a leading center in the field of Organ Transplantation such as Liver, Heart, Kidney and the hospital has organized training, transferred the Organ transplant package to many units and achieved good results. The need to implement the Kidney Transplantation technique at Bach Mai Hospital is necessary, in line with the development orientation.
At the meeting, the representative of Bach Mai Hospital reported on the current status of facilities, human resources, equipment, training needs, technology transfer and the ability to receive the technical package “Kidney Transplant”. The hospital has been licensed by the Ministry of Health for a kidney transplant since 2005, which expired in 2008. By 2011, it has restarted kidney transplantation. Up to now, 429 cases have been transplanted, but there are still challenges in the records; Difficulties in diagnosing brain death, setting up committees and implementing multi-organ transplantation from brain dead donors; Report on facilities: operating room, modern machinery system.
The experts from Viet Duc University Hospital conducted a survey on different specialties: Urology; Organ Transplant; Cardiovascular; Kidney diseases and Dialysis; Image Diagnosis; Anesthesia resuscitation; Biochemistry; Blood Transfusion and Hematology; Pathology; Ability to supply drugs, medical materials, control infection.
Bach Mai Hospital proposes Viet Duc University Hospital in the immediate period to cooperate in training and transferring multi-organ transplant techniques; Coordinate with forensic experts of other medical facilities to form a committee to diagnose brain death according to regulations. Regarding the next stage, while receiving training and technical transfer, the hospital will complete legal procedures to request the Ministry of Health to certify a medical facility fully qualified for multi-organ transplantation.
Representative of the delegation, Prof. Tran Binh Giang, MD, PhD – Director of Viet Duc University Hospital said that he agreed to transfer the technical package of Kidney Transplantation to Bach Mai Hospital, ensuring a methodical transfer and maintaining a sustainable technique, proceed to multi-organ transplantation in the later stage. At the same time, Bach Mai Hospital ensures funding for procurement, additional equipment, consumables, infrastructure (arranging 3 comprehensive operating rooms) … training, receiving technical packages.
