Viet Duc University hospital successfully organized the launching ceremony of epilepsy patient club

According to WHO, epilepsy is one of the most popular neurologic pathologies affecting nearly 50 million people of all ages. In Vietnam, depending on the geographic area, the incidence of epilepsy varies from 4.9 to 7.5 per 1000 population.

 

In order to provide good enough information and update the knowledge about healthcare for epilepsy patients, Viet Duc University Hospital decided to establish a club for epilepsy patients.

 

On 16^th January 2021, Viet Duc University Hospital successfully organized the launching ceremony of epilepsy patient club. Attending to the ceremony, there were Professor LE Duc Hinh, PhD., MD., former President of Vietnamese Association of Neurology; Associate Professor DONG Van He, PhD., MD., Director of Neurosurgical Center; Ms. NGUYEN Lan Huong, MA., MD., Deputy Chair of Viet Duc University Hospital Trade Union, Mr. NGUYEN Anh Tuan, PhD., MD., Chief of Neurology and Neuro-ICU Department; Mr. NGUYEN Trong Son, PhD., MD., Head of Social Work Department, Viet Duc University Hospital and numerous patients, their family and students from Hanoi Medical University.

 

Giving speech at the ceremony, Associate Professor DONG Van He – Vice Director of Viet Duc University Hospital shared that one of the most popular troubles for epilepsy patients is the stigma. This was one of the key factors preventing patients from seeking for care. Besides, without proper treatment, epilepsy might lead to long-term consequences for patients and their family. Hopefully, the establishment of this club would help and support patients and their family with knowledge, helpful information in taking good care of epilepsy patients.

 

At the ceremony, the executive committee came into sight with 9 members including: Associate Professor DONG Van He PhD., MD. – Vice Director of Viet Duc University Hospital – Head of the Club; Mr. NGUYEN Anh Tuan PhD., MD. – Head of Neurology and Neuro-ICU Department, Viet Duc University Hospital – Deputy Head of the Club; Mr. TRAN Dinh Van MA., MD., Neurosurgery I Department, Viet Duc University Hospital; Ms. NGUYEN Thi Phuong Lam, Nurse – Leader of Trade Union of Neurosurgery I Department; Mr. DUONG Minh Duc, Nurse – Head nurse of Neurology and Neuro-ICU Department; Ms. NGUYEN Thi Phuong, Nurse –  Neurology and Neuro-ICU Department; Mr. NGUYEN Trong Thanh – Representative of patients; Ms. NGUYEN Thi Thanh Tam MA. Staff of Social Work Department.

 

On the occasion of the launching ceremony, patients and their family were also provided a lot of useful information from Professor LE Duc Hinh PhD., MD. – Former President of Vietnamese Association of Neurology; Ms. NGUYEN Thi Phuong Thao, Specialized doctor of grade II – Neurology and Neuro-ICU Department and Mr. TRAN Dinh Van MA., MD. Neurosurgery I Department with following topics: Diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy; New treatment approaches for epilepsy; Initial achievements in the surgical treatment of epilepsy at Viet Duc University Hospital.

 

The launching ceremony of the Epilepsy patient club was held with success. This club was expected to have a lot of connecting activities for members and medical staff in the near future.
